Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson is a British politician and writer serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Leader of the Conservative Party since July 2019. He was Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs 2016-2018 and Mayor of London 2008-2016. Johnson has been Member of Parliament (MP) for Uxbridge and South Ruislip since 2015 and was previously MP for Henley from 2001 to 2008. He has been described as adhering to the ideology of one-nation and national conservatism.

The prime minister argued every Government gets ‘buffeted’ by bad by-election results mid-term, as he claimed people are ‘sick’ of hearing about him.
"Every day Boris Johnson clings to office, he brings further shame, chaos and neglect," the Lib Dems newly-elected MP said.

Oliver Dowden resigned as chairman of the Conservative Party after it suffered two by-election defeats, saying in a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson that “someone must take responsibility”.

"After the Tories lose two by-elections while Boris Johnson is in Rwanda, backbenchers ask Priti Patel to cancel his return ticket."
